Reference for Alan Rycroft

As the Treasurer of the Capital Region Race Relations Association, and as Advocate for the Vancouver Island Human Rights Coalition, I wish to acknowledge the excellent work in grant writing that Alan has performed for us.

He is professional, committed and organized, demonstrating an acute ability to incorporate the directions of the agency and its Board into the proposal. He is flexible and accommodating while still keeping the agency and himself to tight deadlines for funding applications. Given that both organizations are not-for-profit with limited financial resources, his charges for service are most reasonable.

Alan has also recently assisted the Human Rights Institute in obtaining charitable tax status.

I have most recently experienced the wonderful media work Alan has done for me on my 2004 Federal NDP Election Campaign. He provided many services very professionally.... co-managing media relations, producing the sophisticated candidate web site DavidTurner.ca, providing daily candidate briefings, editing a daily news service, and fulfilling a variety of strategic communications functions. I am very greatful for his contributions.

Alan Rycroft is very highly recommended by me to other agencies.

I have known Al Rycroft since 1990 and worked closely with him on many campaigns and projects. We have served together as Directors for several organizations, co-organized conferences and events, and co-authored articles and presentations.

It is my pleasure to recommend Al as a valuable, multi-talented asset to any NGO, or other organization. He is an effective and dedicated manager, communicator and organizer. He is dependable, efficient and conscientious. His integrity and dedication to his work is unquestionable.

I have my Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Victoria, and am a former Leader of the Green Party of Canada. I can attest that Al is an analytical thinker who is not afraid of complex issues, and works well with a wide variety of "stakeholders". In an age of specialization, he takes a broad view of multiple issues, thinks strategically, and works for the long term.

In the years since I have known him, we have worked together with the BC Environmental Network, Victoria Peace Centre, Victoria's longstanding Earth Walk and Peace Walks, the VIP Society's lawsuit requesting an environmental review of nuclear ships, which he guided to the Supreme Court of Canada, as well as on an election campaign and other projects.

Al Rycroft is also an expert at placing media stories, and I have enjoyed his many publications, news releases, letters and articles over the years. I have subscribed to his excellent Peace, Earth & Justice News since it began in the mid-1990s.

Al Rycroft is that rare person of vision who is also a capable organizer, communicator and administrator. It is a pleasure to be his colleague and friend. Please feel free to call me to discuss his qualifications and attributes further.

Sincerely,

Letter of Recommendation

Dear Sir / Madam,

Alan Rycroft was an integral part of the PureEdge Marketing team in managing our Media Relations and conferences programs for North America. His accomplishments included:

  • Creating, managing, and executing our media relations program from a zero impressions position to one in which we typically received over 900,000 impressions per quarter.
  • Planning, organizing and executing a wholly new conferences and trade show program which surpassed our expectations in driving both visibility and lead generation.

Both programs were executed with efficiency and speed, with a better than expected return on investment.

Alan possesses an inventive and team-oriented approach to problem solving, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills. He is self-motivated and self-managed, requiring minimal management oversight.

I would not hesitate to work with Alan again and I am sure that he will be a valuable asset in any organization.

Sincerely,

Reference for Alan Rycroft

It is my pleasure to provide Alan Rycroft with a reference for his excellent work at the Centre for Education Information.

Although he joined our company knowing little about the education system, he soon learned about our many technical projects and the environment in which we operate. Equally important, he was able to persuade our Executive to establish a public profile, and quickly obtained positive media coverage for us throughout British Columbia.

Alan Rycroft is a quick learner, and very skilled at explaining complex matters to the general public and specialty audiences. His passion and thorough understanding of the media are strong assets for any employer who wishes to strengthen their public image.

He is creative and a strategic thinker.

His writing and editing skills are superb, and his initiative and drive are important factors in his success. Alan created some excellent conference presentations and made important improvements to our Corporate Web site. He is sensitive to deadlines and a dedicated employee.

Please feel free to call me should you wish to discuss Alan Rycroft's work further.

Sincerely,

To Whom It May Concern:

For the past three years as Director, Communications & Client Relations, I worked with Al Rycroft, who served the C &CR team well in his position of Communications Officer.

Al won his position after a rigorous interview process; he had been short-listed from hundreds of applicants. The attributes we identified during the interview process-- excellent communications skills, which were honed through proven experience in varied positions and projects in the past-- were proven out over the years he worked in the deadline/crisis-driven environment in which we operated.

Al is an extremely quick study. He is very intelligent, an able traveler in any technological territory, and always willing to take on a challenge or stretch his limits.

I recommend him highly as a valuable asset to any work group, which needs a skilled communications generalist, hard worker and dedicated employee.

Please feel free to call me for further comment.

To Whom It May Concern:

I am pleased to provide a letter of reference for Alan Rycroft.

Alan joined the Communications and Client Relations Department in 1995, as a Communications Officer, reporting to me as Manager, Communications Services.

I was a member of the selection panel that interviewed candidates who had been short-listed for the Communications Officer position, and during the selection process, Alan clearly provided the strongest written and oral presentations of all the candidates we considered. That, plus strong recommendations from his references, made our hiring decision an easy one.

When Alan assumed the job, he met or exceeded all of my expectations. Once Alan was clear on each task assigned to him, he worked quickly and efficiently to complete the task, often under the pressure of a deadline. Thanks to the fact that he is well organized and has exceptional research skills, Alan was able to be flexible and responsive in an environment that often required quick action. Alan's organizational talents were particularly notable on several occasions when he was asked to organize community publicity events. He took strong leadership roles with those events, handled countless organizing details and carried out follow-up activities afterwards.

Sincerely,

Letter of Reference for Al Rycroft

I am delighted to write a letter of reference for Al Rycroft. I have known him for about 15 years. I have a tremendous respect for his abilities and his dedication to working on issues of peace and justice, which he has done for the last 20 years.

Al would be an asset to any group or organization. He is a remarkable organizer and his energy and commitment are inspirational. He is extremely reliable and hardworking. I have seen him in many different roles, but I am particularly familiar with his work within the Victoria Peace Centre, formerly known as the Greater Victoria Disarmament Group. From 1989 to 1991 he was coordinator for the group, organizing the large number of volunteers and running the office in Victoria. He continues as a Volunteer Director today. He implemented activities and actions on which the group had decided, making suggestions of his own, and following through with good working plans. He provided liaison with the media and wrote media releases which greatly enhanced the group's visibility. Once he was with us, it was hard to imagine how we had ever managed without him!

I feel that Al would be excellent as a campaign organizer and also as a coordinator of non-profit societies. He has vision, drive and an ability to see the bigger picture. He is an experienced and successful fund-raiser. He can assess a situation and come up with a good plan of action which he will then help to see through. In a simple phrase, he gets things done!

Another area of Al's work which I have really appreciated is in the electronic "Peace, Earth and Justice" lists which he has provided for us all over the last six years. The richness, diversity and timeliness of the contents make them invaluable. This is just one example of another of Al's skills: he is an expert in computer technolgy and communications.

Al is a person of integrity, with a friendly, outgoing personality; he is very pleasant and encouraging to work with and interacts very well on a one-to-one basis. I recommend him very highly indeed.

To Whom It May Concern,

I have known Mr. Al Rycroft for over eight years. During that period of time, he has worked for me on two of my books as an editor, researcher and word processor. His skills in these areas are exemplary. His computer skills in particular, are of a very high order, and no less is his editing ability.

I have also worked closely with Mr. Rycroft in a number of non-government organizations (NGOs). Here I have been impressed with his organizational and media skills, which again, are far above average. Moreover, his dedication and concern for human and social values permeate all of his work. Media skills are essential for the proper functioning of NGOs, and again, Mr. Rycroft has shown a genuine capacity for this kind of work.

In conclusion, I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Mr. Rycroft for any position involving any of the above skills. In fact, I do so enthusiastically.
