CIO Magazine Enterprise Values Award 2003
Alan Rycroft wrote the successful
award application for the US Securities & Exchange Commission
to receive this prestigious North American award. You can also read the
subsequent article

EDGAR (Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis & Retrieval System) is
the SEC's cornerstone system that accepts regulatory documents filed with
the Commission over the Internet, and disseminates that information electronically
to data vendors and the public. EDGAR evolved out of the necessity to
rid the SEC of the mountains of paper that swamped the agency in the 1970s
and 1980s. EDGAR performs automated collection, validation, indexing,
acceptance, and forwarding of submissions by companies and others who
are required by law to file forms with the SEC. Its primary purpose is
to increase the efficiency and fairness of the securities market for the
benefit of investors, corporations, and the economy, by accelerating the
receipt, acceptance, dissemination, and analysis of time-sensitive corporate
information filed with the agency. (Full Award

SEC Standardizes on Secure XML Electronic Forms
(Advertorial - 575 K , Transform
Magazine)
Before automation, all filings made to the US Securities and Exchange
Commission (SEC) were paper-based. Trucks delivering copies of documents
snarled traffic in busy downtown Washington DC for miles, as they tried
to meet the filing deadlines. Within the SEC, documents had to be photocopied
and delivered by hand to each reviewer. (Full
