Turner Welcomes Anderson to Race With Challenge to Debate Issues

Victoria federal NDP candidate David Turner congratulated David Anderson today on his nomination as the Liberal candidate for Victoria, and calledon Anderson to debate his opponents in the upcoming federal election in Victoria.

"In David Anderson's decade as MP for Victoria, he didn't deliver for hisconstituents on the issues that matter, from health care, to publictransit, to affordable housing. Now that his friend Paul Martin is turning the Liberals further to the right, Mr. Anderson should explain how corporate tax cuts and backroom deals for friends and insiders will improve the lives of Victorians," Turner said.

"Jack Layton has got Canadians looking at the NDP as an alternative to the right-wing parties. That's because while the Liberals and the former Conservative government wasted money on scandals and special treatment for friends, the NDP is the only party that shares Canadians' priorities, with a plan for better health care, a strong economy, and sustainable public services," Turner said.

"I am prepared to debate David Anderson any time between now and the conclusion of the election campaign," Turner said. "Victoria voters are sick of corrupt, right-wing Liberal governments, and they will say no to Paul Martin and Gordon Campbell in the next federal election."

Anderson should also account for the poor spending of taxpayers' money as exposed by Auditor General Sheila Fraser, and come clean about his knowledge of the sponsorship scandal before the election, so voters can judge his performance as MP, Turner said.
